Happy (Almost) New Year! It’s a slow week for major launches, but I found a few really neat things! A floating bike camper trailer, carbon fiber chainrings, the next-gen Privateer enduro bike, a full-suss BMX bike, three interesting new kids bikes, a shock-and-tire combo pump, and more! Here’s the best new stuff this week:

  • Privateer’s Gen2 sneak peek
  • BeTRITON e-bike boat camper trailer
  • Gemini 39g carbon chainring
  • WeThePeople Swamp Master
  • Himiway C1
  • Nukeproof Cub Scoot
  • Marin Coast kids bikes
  • Topeak Mtn 2stage pump

Updated alloy Privateer enduro mountain bike coming soon

gen 2 privateer enduro mountain bike frame prototype

While they’re not releasing all of the details yet, Privateer gave us a sneak peek at their next gen enduro mountain bike. It gets flip chips to adjust chainstay length and rear axle position, letting you swap wheel sizes (29″ or 27.5″) and tweak the geometry independently. Size specific chainstay lengths keep the handling spot on for every frame size.

The suspension is refined to be more supple at the start, supportive in the middle, and resist bottom out, while helping maintain traction when you gas it or stop it. Oversize bearings w/ double seals, single-tool hardware, external cable routing, and lots of frame protection keep it running smooth and easy to service, as any “privateer” will appreciate.

Development story is here, and check their videos on suspension, geometry, and durability, too. Preorders open in February 2024.

BeTRITON camper trailer boat for e-bikes

BeTriton amphibious camper trailer boat is towed by an e-bike

The original was a completely integrated e-bike, boat, and camper trailer all in one. The new BeTRITON Amphibious Camper Trailer is towed by your e-bike instead, but is still an electric motorboat with multiple cabin options. It sleeps two, has a pop-up canopy, removable seats that double as a table, and a fold-up front wheel with trailer hitch to attach to your bike.

It comes in a box, you assemble it. Weight is 130kg w/o the dual LiFePO battery packs (2,880Wh), range is up to 25km with a top speed up to 8km/h, depending on weather. It comes with lights, a manual windshield wiper, and two floor mats. A folding anchor is optional. Preorder for €100, MSPR is €9,900, delivers in 2024.

Gemini Rigel 39g carbon fiber chainring

worlds lightest gemini rigel carbon fiber chainring for mountain bikes

Weighing as little as 39g, the Gemini Rigel carbon fiber chainring uses continuous-fiber forged carbon over an alloy skeleton to reinforce each tooth. The minimalist metal structure supports each tooth, while the extremely hard forged carbon surface makes it smooth, quiet, and reduces friction.

Ridges create a narrow-wide tooth profile and help shed mud. They come in 32/34/36 tooth counts with 3mm offsets to fit bikes with 148mm Boost rear hubs and work with any 11/12-speed chain. They fit SRAM (3 & 8 bolt), Shimano, Race Face/Easton & Cannondale direct mount cranksets. MSRP €103.

WeThePeople Swamp Master full suspension BMX bike

we the people swamp master full suspension bmx bike

For when you wanna shred the mountain bike trails on 20″ wheels, the new WeThePeople Swamp Master full suspension BMX bike puts a Rockshox Monarch RL air shock and Manitou J-Unit 100mm travel fork on a chromoly frame with Kenda Kaos 20×2.6″ tires and 36-spoke wheels. (video here)

Himiway C1 kids e-balance bike

himiway C1 electric scoot balance bike for kids

Let’s be real, this is an electric pit bike for kids…or anyone under 165lbs that wants a mini bike. The Himiway C1 has a 350W hub motor, 36V 10Ah battery good for up to 50 miles and 7-8 hours of use. Three modes let you choose from 7, 13, or 15 mph max speeds.

It has a 6061 aluminum frame, rear hydraulic disc brake, display screen, and 16×3″ Kenda tires. The thumb throttle (versus a twist throttle) prevents accidental engagement, and the motor helps slow the bike when not engaged, too. Four colors, MSRP is $799. Nukeproof Cub Scoot kids bikes

nukeproof cub scoot balance bikes and pedal bikes for kids

Nukeproof launched their Cub Scout line of 20-26″ youth pedal bikes in 2021, and now (thanks to a baby boom in their office, they say), they launched the Cub Scoot balance bikes and 14-16″ Cub Scout pedal bikes. All have lightweight alloy frames, because we (parents) all know that we end up carrying the bikes, too.

The 14-16″ bikes have size-specific cockpit parts, pedals, and cranks, including short-reach brake levers. The 12″ scoot bikes have rear disc brake tabs in case you want to add one, and a longer seatpost to help it grow with your kids for longer. All have Vee mountain bike tires. MSRP from £229-£399. (PS – Yes, Nukeproof’s U.S. office recently closed, but they told me they’re still full gas in the UK)

Marin Coast Trail lightweight kids’ city bikes

marin coast alloy lightweight kids city bikes

Marin’s new Coast Trail kids bikes offer shaped alloy frames and forks that make them lighter than most kids bikes. Available in 16″, 20″ and 24″ wheel sizes, with the middle one getting both 7-speed & singlespeed options. All are designed with low standover, linear-pull rim brakes, and 2.0″ Vee Speedster tires.

Kid-sized components, cranks, pedals & cockpits give them a premium street bike that’s worth passing down to siblings or relatives when they outgrow it. MSRP from $429 to $489.

Topeak Mountain 2STAGE combines shock & tire pumps in one

topeak mountain two-stage digital shock and tire pump combo

This isn’t new, but I just discovered it. The Topeak Mountain Digital 2Stage pump combines a high-volume pump for mountain bike tires with a high-pressure shock pump that goes up to 300psi. Twist the dial at the base to switch modes. The hose has an extendable valve head to fit both Schrader & Presta, and the digital screen cycles between PSI and BAR.

While the Amazon reviews are mixed, several cycling media reviews give it 8/10 ratings all around, making it a good way to reduce your pack load if you’re willing to read the instructions. Street price ~$72.

On Stage

I found three really good MTB shredits this week, from Gee Atherton’s year end highlight reel to Tomas Slavic’s urban joyride to Dangerous Dave’s sketchy-as-hell skinnies tour through BC, which is probably the best of this bunch. Enjoy!

I hope that’s a parachute in his backpack. Filmed with the Insta360 X3 action camera.

So smooth, so many stairs. And excellent drone work!

Who builds these things? Mad skills, and mad props. Also filmed with the Insta360 X3 action camera.
