things we create laser alignment tool for keeping front bicycle wheel straight

Happy Holidays! I’ve been saving a few cool things for this week because they’re not totally new, but they’re pretty cool. And there’s not a lot of launches the week before and after Christmas. I found three different tools that use lasers to help align different parts of your bike, plus a few more things worth sharing…

  • ThingsWeCre8 StayStraight
  • Gates DriveAlign
  • Tune Linientreu
  • Lizardskins 3D-printed grips
  • Rotor INspider x Shimano MTB
  • Chris King mix & match
  • Campagnolo Gold Corkscrew
  • Fox Dropframe Pro
  • SylvanSport Vast trailer

ThingsWeCre8 STAYSTRAIGHT handlebar-wheel aligment

For $50-60 you can save yourself a lot of time and frustration and trying to straddle the bike and hold the front tire between your knees while moving your stem ever so slightly only to tighten everything down and see that you didn’t get it right.

The ThingsWeCre8 STAYSTRAIGHT laser clips to your handlebar and projects a beam onto your tire, making it really easy, even if your front wheel is slightly off-center because of its dish (most disc brake wheels are). An optional adapter lets get your saddle straight, too.

Gates Belt Drive Laser Alignment Tool

Whereas a singlespeed chainring and cog could be slightly off without too many problems, a belt-driven bike really needs to have those things perfectly aligned. The Gates DriveAlign Laser Tool is more of an automotive tool, but it’ll work for bikes, too.

Tune LINIENTREU derailleur pulley alignment tool

The Tune LINIENTREU tool has a hex bit that sticks into your rear derailleur’s mounting bolt to hold it behind the cassette, then you slide the black tube in or out to position the laser underneath the desired cog. Once there, use your cable bezel or buttons to perfectly align the derailleur’s upper pulley with that cog to get perfect shifts.

You can also use it to align it with the smallest and largest cogs to set the upper/lower limit screws. MSRP is ~$200, but…lasers.

Lizardskins 3D-printed MTB grips

Similar to the very comfortable 3D-printed saddles from Specialized and Fizik, the new Lizardskins 3DGRP uses lasers (yay!), carbon fiber, and a liquid resin to print these grips. They have a 32mm diameter, weigh 68g/pair, and should be supportive up top and squishy and grippy on the bottom.

Rotor adds INspider power meters for Shimano MTB cranks

Rotor’s lightweight INspider power meter spiders now fit Shimano 12-speed XTR, XT & SLX mountain bike cranksets. The powermeter itself weighs just 99g, has a magnetic charging port, and fits Rotor’s round or oval chainrings (30/32/34/36 tooth). It gets 350 hours of ride time per charge, has +/-1.5% accuracy, and retails for $497 with your choice of chainring.

Chris King Mix ‘n’ Match Headsets

Remember the Rastafari Gold-Green-Red headset combos from years past? Now you can recreate those or any other flag or team or personal favorite color combination from Chris King headset parts. Choose individual colors for the lower cup, upper cup, bearing cap, and stem cap. The asterisk: The colors are limited, and not all colors are available for all parts, and they’re only available while supplies last. So, hurry.

Campagnolo’s Gold Corkscrew is back for the holidays

campagnolo limited edition gold and rose gold corkscrew

It’s about $2k and they only made 10 of each color, but it’s awesome. Available in Gold and Rose Gold, Campagnolo’s fantastic (best I’ve ever used, seriously) corkscrew normally comes in standard finishes and costs much less. But they make a few 24k gold-plated and 18k rose gold-plated versions every year, too.

Fox Dropframe Pro half shell helmet

The latest Fox Dropframe Pro half shell mountain bike helmet gets upgraded with a BOA dial for micro fit adjustments, MIPS, and more ear coverage. It also gets larger front vents, 3-position adjustable visor, a removable under-visor GoPro mount, and a Fidlock magnetic buckle. Three sizes, 8 colors, MSRP $279.95.

SylvanSport VAST adventure travel trailer

sylvan sport vast adventure camper trailer

The new SylvanSport VAST is a purpose-built adventure trailer with a clever indoor/outdoor kitchen. The entire kitchen unit slides on a diagonal, so it’s up high for inside use, or on ground level for cooking outdoors. A front storage box holds a propane tank, two batteries, and gear.

Inside is a full bath and a lounge area that converts to a queen size bed. A second queen bed lowers from the ceiling to comfortably sleep four. The entire lounge area also slides forward to make room for bikes (or whatever) inside, too. Vertical exterior tracks make it easy to attach small kayaks/SUPS. MSRP is $69,995. (video here)
